Alkaline Vegan Burgers: Learn how to make Alkaline Meat Substitute.

This photo shows Aiyaken Sarai preparing alkaline vegan burgers which are an excellent alkaline meat substitute.

Introduction

Hi there! If you want to make alkaline vegan burgers look no further. This recipe is beginner-friendly. It does contain walnuts so if you have an allergy this isn’t the recipe for you.

How to make these alkaline vegan burgers.

As mentioned, these alkaline vegan burgers contain walnuts. You’re going to want to soak your walnuts overnight in purified water. Soaking the walnuts helps with the texture of the burgers. Unless you like that nutty crunch. I personally do not. If you forgot to soak your nuts overnight, no worries. You can soak the nuts at the beginning of the day they’ll be soft enough by the time you’re preparing dinner.

If you’re cooking dry chickpeas you’re going to want to soak those as well. If you purchased a can of chickpeas you can either rise and drain the chickpeas or you can boil them on the stove for 10 minutes to ensure they’re nice and soft. The texture of these patties is very important.

Things to keep in mind when creating these vegan burgers

You can express your creative freedom with these burgers. I like to sautee vegetables to enhance the flavor of these alkaline vegan burgers. In a cast iron skillet I brown onions, red and yellow bell peppers, and mushrooms. You can use any leftover veggies in your fridge to enhance the flavor and texture of these burgers. Just the same you can omit the walnuts you can omit the veggies. It’s all about what you like. Use this recipe as a guide to play around with to get an idea of how to create your veggie burgers.

Step-by-step instructions on how to create this alkaline meat substitute. Watch the full video here!

Ingredients

1 can of drained chickpeas

1/2 cup of presoaked walnuts

1/2 cup of a mixture of chopped red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers mushrooms, and onions (optional)

1 TBSP of flour

Onion powder

Cumin

Cayenne pepper

Salt

Ginger (Ginger is a great substitute for garlic. If you don’t mind garlic go ahead and use some.)

A drop of liquid smoke (optional)

How to cook these alkaline vegan burgers

Begin this recipe by soaking your walnuts in purified water overnight. This is very important. If you do not allow your walnuts to become soft the texture will be very grainy. Unless you like a nutty patty. Then you don’t have to let it soak as long. If you like a smoother consistency, let it soak.

If you’re preparing your chickpeas yourself, allow the chickpeas to soak overnight in purified water. Boil the chickpeas on medium heat for a half hour to 45 minutes. No longer than one hour. Be sure to season your water!

Directions

  • Drain and rinse your canned chickpeas.
    • Add chickpeas to a food processor or a blender and pulse into small pieces. Do not over-pulse the chickpeas. We’re not aiming for hummus. We want a chunky consistency.
    • Season your chickpeas!
  • Pulse your walnuts.
    • Season your walnuts!
  • In a skillet sautee bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms until you smell the yummy goodness. No longer than 5 minutes. When I say ‘burn them up’ I don’t mean literally.
  • Combine chickpeas, walnuts, and sauteed items in a large glass bowl.
    • You’ll notice that the mixture can hold its form. However, I found it better to include flour in the mixture. I used regular flour, but you can use the flour mentioned in Dr. Sebi’s nutritional guide to keep this mixture alkaline.

  • Decide if you’re going to bake or fry your patties. I recommend frying them. It could be because I’m a texture person and like things crispy. I have since discovered that adding oil to the baking sheet and placing it in the oven to get hot can drastically improve the texture. Let the oil get hot and THEN put the patties on the baking sheet and let them cook on the bottom rack.
    • Don’t add too much oil to the skillet if you’re frying on top of the stove. A little goes a long way. You do not want these to be greasy. Allow to brown on both sides, about 4 mins each.
    • If you’re baking these in the oven, keep the tips mentioned above in mind. Set the oven to 350 and allow to cook until brown. About 20 minutes.

That’s it! That’s all that there is to it! I hope you enjoy these delicious walnut chickpea patties! If you try them, let me know your thoughts.

Enjoy!

Before you go,

The alkaline vegan diet can be considered as a partial fast. I’ve created a free eBook for you that goes into everything you need to know about fasting. In this eBook, you’ll learn the history of fasting, how to properly prepare for a fast, as well as how to properly break a fast. There are different types of fasting. All of which we explore in this eBook. The refeeding phase of a fast is so important. This is why I recommend people undergo a six-week alkaline vegan detox. Which essentially is a Daniel fast, only alkaline! Thanks for reading!
